Plaza Del Coso Plaza Del Coso | From “Castile-Leon” 2018. This unusual rectangular square, the oldest predecessor of the typical “plaza mayor” (main square), has been the scene of bullfighting festivals held in the town of Penafiel, Spain since Medieval times. This is also where the traditional Descent of the Angel is held on Easter Sunday. The houses have large balconies overlooking the square and are some of the few surviving today with the “right to view”, whereby certain families have theinherited right to use the balcony to watch festivals and other events held in the square, even though they may not own the house.
